A Day to Remember: Our 2nd Anniversary Celebration
On May 31, 2026, HYC families gathered at Centennial Park in Ellicott City to mark two years together, with food, music, heartfelt recognitions, and a medallion for every player.
Originally set for May 23 and pushed back by rain, our celebration finally arrived on a bright Sunday at Centennial Park, where Habesha Youth Club came together to mark two years as a community. Families spread out on the grass, shared a meal, and enjoyed music while the kids ran and played. It was the kind of afternoon that reminds you what the club is really about: belonging.
It was also a day of gratitude. We took time to recognize the people who built this club and the players who give it life.
Honoring our people
We presented Certificates of Appreciation to the volunteers and coaches whose dedication carried HYC through its first competitive year:
- Zelalem Amlak Bihonegn, for initiating and leading our very first winter league season
- Dan Asgedom, our first Head Coach, for guiding the team through its inaugural season
- Youssef Jride, for his leadership, passion, and dedication to the soccer program
- Getnet Kassa, for building and managing the club’s website
Celebrating our players
Our coaches, Amare, Amsalu, and Zelalem, also recognized players who stood out this season:
- Ebenezer A., Most Improved Player
- Yonatan A., Most Improved Player
- Ezijiw K., for punctuality, reliability, and team spirit
And there was something for everyone:
Every player went home with a medallion, because showing up week after week is its own achievement.
More than a game
Two years in, Habesha Youth Club is more than Saturday soccer. It is a community that celebrates its kids and the people who show up for them. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day special.
